With the rapid development of China’s economy, the ownership has been in transition and the industrial structure has also been going through continuous adjustment and upgrading.Under the background of the series of actions, the problem of unemployment has gradually been exposed. Unemployment will result in a waste of human resources as well as the idleness of workforce. Furthermore, the emergence of unemployment will in turn disturb the economic development of China seriously. Despite of being a country with large populations and human resources, China is not a country with strong human resources. While China is shifting from a country with large human resources to one with strong human resources, how to resolve the unemployment problem has become an urgent issue. In China, job vacancy coexists with the unemployment of labor force simultaneously. Such unemployment type is called structural unemployment. Depending on the theory of structural unemployment, the issue of unemployment in China is studied. In the research on the problem of unemployment,domestic and overseas scholars basically all take the research method of qualitative analysis.Based on qualitative analysis, this paper adopts the principal component analysis and tries to combine qualitative research with quantitative research, so as to study the issue of unemployment in China.The first part of the paper is the introduction which mainly includes the topic background and significance of the paper, research status at home and abroad, research content and methods, and innovative points and inadequate points of the research. A brief overview about the writing background and main content of the paper is given. The second part of the paper is the unemployment concept and related theories. It mainly introduces the definition of unemployment in China and other countries as well as relevant theories about structural unemployment. Moreover, the research level of domestic and overseas theories is summarized,which lays a theoretical foundation for the writing of this paper. The unemployment status quo, unemployment characteristics, and the impact of unemployment on China, are mainly introduced in the third part which gives an introduction about the unemployment problem in China from a macroscopic view. The fact that the current unemployment issue in China is mainly manifested as structural unemployment is also put forward. The fourth part of the paper provides a cause analysis of the structural unemployment in China. On the basis of the qualitative analysis about the causes of structural unemployment in China, 5 first-class indexes and 14 second-class indicators are selected at first. Then, through the principal component analysis method, the quantitative research about causes of structural unemployment in China is carried out. Finally, a conclusion was made according to the data results. The fifth part mainly introduces the successful experience in dealing with structuralunemployment in foreign countries as well as the inspiration of that on China’s unemployment treatment, so as to reach the reference purpose in coping with the issue of structural unemployment in China. Countermeasures for coping with the structural unemployment in China is proposed in the sixth part of the paper, which is specifically conducted from five aspects, namely, the ownership structure, industrial structure, regional structure, workforce quality and institutional arrangement. The last part of the paper is about the research summary and research prospect. A conclusion is made about the research result of the paper in this part.The occurrence of unemployment phenomenon is inevitable in the economic development process of China, which plays a significant role in easing the unemployment pressure and realizing adequate employment. With the continuous development of the economy and society of China, plus the ongoing efforts made by the government and the whole society, we believe that the structural unemployment problem of China will be treated effectively.
