Lean production is Toyota mode of production, is essentially a concept, is a spirit of continuous improvement. In the past20years, lean production has brought great change to manufacturing industry, set off a revolution in manufacturing industry in the whole world. Foreign scholars have conducted research on the lean production, summed up the lean thinking, it describes a better, faster, lower cost, space occupied by the minimum inventory rate, minimum and artificial cost lowest production organization way, try to use the least resources to create the greatest value and eliminating all waste. Chinese is a big manufacturing country, in recent years, although the manufacturing sector do all one can to catch up, independent research and development capacity strengthened, but the design and production of the products in the efficiency, cost and quality is still difficult to meet the demand of the country. The lean thinking into the research and development of product design of enterprises to lean design, is one of the ways to solve this problem. Lean design is the most effective method, with the lowest cost and highest quality in a specified time to create as much value to meet the needs of users.Aiming at the existing problems in the design of the original enterprise product machine manufacturing, aim at the long design cycle, high cost and low quality of the design of the three aspects of the problem, by using some methods of lean design, solve the problems existing in the design and development of manufacturing enterprise of our country machine tool, and application examples are verified.To shorten the design cycle. Methods using the data management and computer aided design, set aside the original time-consuming manual drawing and piles of paper documents, save the data access for time, improve the drawing speed and design staff, shorten the design cycle. To reduce the design cost. Through setting up IDEFO model enterprise of the original design process, and carries on the analysis using the ASME method, the abolition of non value added activities after the proposed IDEFO design flow model, to reduce the design cost.Improve the quality of design. Through to the enterprise the design quality of multi-objective evaluation method analysis, obtains the evaluation standard of the design quality; by the FMEA method on the machine tool product failure mode and failure analysis, to take the necessary measures to avoid the risk of the improvement of the machine. In order to improve the design quality requirements.On the basis of this research, through the example to illustrate the above research contents. In this study, the machine tool manufacturing enterprises demand as the starting point, adopts some techniques of lean design, solved three problems existing in design and development of enterprises, help China machine tool manufacturing enterprises to further shorten with the actual demand gap.
