The first14economic and technological development zones built has a high starting point,perfect infrastructure, and gathered a large number of distinctive industrial clusters whichmakes a industrial structure optimization and industry advantage, which has achieved avirtuous circle of input and output, the accumulation of a relatively strong economic strengthhas the resources advantage, and plays an important exemplary and leading role in thedevelopment of development zones in China. With the development of the development zoneitself, the economic development of surrounding areas of radiation become the growth pole ofregional economy. During the12th Five Year Plan period, the economic and technologicaldevelopment zone should take full advantage of the opportunity brought by the internationaland domestic economic environment, and should pay attention to prevent the risk brought bythe open economy and accelerate the development of the economic and technologicaldevelopment zone simultaneously.Based on the theory of regional economic competitiveness, the first batch of Economicand Technological Development Zones in China was studied by the method of empirical study.Firstly, according to the characteristics of economic and technological development zone,which reflects the economic competitiveness, the index system of evaluation of economiccompetitiveness of economic and technological development zone is designed based on thebasic principle of design based on index system. At the same time, factor analysis method andcluster analysis method is determined to be used for the index system of evaluation. Secondly,extract the main factors from the evaluation indexes by factor analysis, and calculate the factor scores and rankings, principal factor and classify the first batch of14economic andtechnological development zones by cluster analysis. The14economic and technologicaldevelopment areas are divided into5categories; find out the characteristics of every kind ofeconomic and technological development zone. To conduct a comprehensive assessment ofthe economic competitiveness of the first batch of economic and technological developmentzone from the horizontal. Thirdly, according to the data of2008-2012years of the first batchof economic and technological development zone, combined with factor analysis and clusteranalysis results of annual data, the overall trend analysis of economic competitiveness ofeconomic and technological development zone is made from the vertical. Finally, according tothe evaluation results to judge the advantages and disadvantages of the process of theeconomic and technological development zone, to put forward to the correspondingsuggestions, which could promote the economic and technological development zoneeconomic competitiveness and enhance the economic strength of our country.Through the analysis of factor analysis and cluster analysis results, found that thedevelopment of the first batch of economic and Technological Development Zone is notbalanced, the level of competitiveness of the economy gap between the economic andTechnological Development Zone larger.
