As a social economic organization that generally exist in developed market economy, trade promotion association play a very important role in promoting economic development and promoting social democracy.After reform and opening-up in China, the market economy was established and the government began to transform its function and organs. Thus, Chinese trade promotion association obtained the necessary organizational basis and institutional space for development. A lot of official and private trade promotion association emergenced in that time and played the role actively as the assistant to the government, the servant for enterprises and the social benefit maintenance in current society. Our country is now in the key period of social transformation, the economic and social fields further seperated from state field. The trade promotion association is located at the intersection of country, market and society fields and its social role location is influenced by the complex and uncertain characteristics of this period.Based on this, this research takes the trade promotion association in transformation period as the object of study and theory of ternary social structure as theoretical basis to analysis what kind of the social role location that this association should be. We try to find the gap between the ideal state and the actual state in trade promotion asscotion social role through the empitical study and discuss the new path of role construction.This paper consists of six parts. The first part briefly introduces the research background and research significance, combines the relevant literature about trade promotion association and define its concept and characteristics. The second part constructs the analysis framework based on theory of ternary social structure and paves tha way for the following study. The third part focuses on the analysis of the logical order of the formation of Chinese ternary social structure and the characteristics of changing of government, market and social relation to find the generation mode of the main kinds of Chinese trade promotion association. The fourth part is main of empirical and analysis the current situation of trade promotion association role playing and the cosplay dilemma.The fifth part puts forward related suggestions for the construction of the role of trade promotion association.
