Rubber industry has been one of the pillar industries in Xishuangbanna. Rubber has brought along the development of relating links such as production, processing, transportation and services which have become a complete value chain. With the advent of marketization of rubber industry, rubber price declining (which has forced the rubber farmers to abandon the rubber trees and the rubber manufacturers to halt production), reforms of reclamation system, changes of ecological environment, the benefit distribution in rubber industry has been continually readjusting. This thesis aims to illustrate the benefit distribution status quo of the rubber industry and analyze the access of value chain actors with the use of value chain theory and access theory. The main conclusions are as follows.Firstly, the rubber industry in Xishuangbanna consists of8sub-value chains. Before the rubber trees are tapped, there are4sub-value chains which concern how the seedlings come from to the rubber farmers and where the seedlings and rubber trees are going. After the rubber trees are tapped, there are3sub-value chains which concern the various flows among collecting and processing step. The last chain concerns other parts after the rubber manufacturers finish processing the rubber.Secondly, by comparing the income and cost of rubber farmers, middlemen and rubber manufacturers in the value chain, this thesis finds that on the one hand the benefit distribution among the three main value chain actors is uneven, that is, rubber farmers gain the least, middlemen gain more and rubber manufacturer gain the most. But on the other hand, none of the three gain much in the value chain.Thirdly, to the rubber farmers, land, position and labor cost are the most important factors to access. But it is more feasible to improve rubber farmers’ agricultural organization level and tapping skill. To the middlemen, position and capital are the most import factors for access. Besides the "ambulatory middlemen" have a different way to access. To the rubber manufacturers, monopoly is the core factor to the state-owned rubber manufacturers, capital is the most important factor to all the rubber manufacturers, innovation is a breakthrough for the private-owed rubber manufacturers and some human factors such as management of the enterprises, entrepreneurial capacity also exert impact on the access of rubber manufacturers.
