With the dwindling of the fossil energy, energy has become an important factor that affects the world economic and social development. China, as the developing country with large amount of people does’t have much fossil energy relatively. On the other hand, Chinese economy keeps growing and both of the industrialization and urbanization processes are accelerating, which will lead to increasement of the gap between energy output and consumption. As an inexhaustible clean energy, wind power get more attention of various countries in the world, and growing rapidly in China. Development of wind power supply can not only alleviate energy crisis, optimize energy structure, also can produce significant effect of carbon emissions and environmental improvement.Compared to other new forms energy such as nuclear power, photovoltaic power and biomass power, wind power are influenced by region, the statistics and analysis related to wind power development are based on geographical area in our country. However research on whether wind power development in our country have regional differences, and whether the regional differences should bedivided by geographic haven’t been done.Based on the status quo of China’s wind power installed capacity development, the paper use all of the data from2003to2012and portion of monthly data of2013of26provincial power company installed wind power capacity, to study the regional differences of installed capacity of China wind power. With the cluster analysis result, we can figure out that there are regional differences in the development of China’s wind power installed capacity, but it is inconsistent with both standard geographic area and regional distribution of wind energy resources. Based on the factors of wind power installed capacity, the paper does the empirical analysis of reasons for the regional differences of the growth of China’s wind power installed capacity. It is drawn that the effects of wind power prices, the amount of wind power, wind power generation capacity on wind-rich region and weak wind regions are opposite, and the impacts of local economic on the wind power installed capacity of various regions are also different. Combined with the impact factors of the regional differences of wind power installed capacity, in order to reasonably plan the layout of wind power, China should strengthen the assessment of wind energy resources, set a reasonable price for wind power, comprehensive considering the wind power value, improve the ability of grid enterprises access wind power, strengthen inter-provincial trades of wind power.
