Modern technology develops to the ever-changing conditions, economic developmentdepends on scientific and technological innovation, and economic globalization develops alongwith the process of scientific and technological globalization. In the age of rapid advancement oftechnology, science research plays a key role in enhancing scientific and technological innovationand technological competitiveness, development and pioneering of new technologies are allderived from scientific research. Thus, research management plays an important role in theresearch process, in the next big data environment, scientific research project also have higherrequirements. As an important indicator, patent information plays a significant role, present ofcharacterization of technology development path, research focus and prediction of the futuredirection of technology development. Patent information analys is is the basis of scientific andtechnological innovation.Patent is looked as output of research projects, which is an important indicator to assess theeffect of research. In the stage of initiation of scientific research, patent information analysis hasnot received adequate attention. By analyzing the relationship of scientific research projects andpatent information, in-depth exploration of internal relations between initiation of scientificresearch and patent applications, sum up method of patent information supporting research projectand optimize model of scientific research projects management. Combining with technology lifecycle theory to predict future technology trends, provide directional guidance for the initiation ofscientific research, to improve research efficiency, avoid the risk of technology research anddevelopment, and prevent duplication of research.This paper takes the initiation of scientific researches NSF as an example, selects the carbonnanotube technology, wireless sensor network technology and fuel cell technology as samples ofcase studies, and respectively makes detail analys is from aspects of yearly application trends,applicant organizations and theme of the content of three technical areas of patent information andscientific research project information, through correlation coefficient calculation andvisualization of scientific graphically intuitive relationship showing various research angles.Combined with function and method of patent information to predict technology trends, on thebasis of patent information data after integration of carbon nanotubes technology, wireless sensornetwork technology and fuel cell technology, fitting technology life cycle curve using Logisticscurve, partitioning technique development phase, corresponding to each stage of the researchproject analyzing the s ituation of the respective technology, analyzing the aspects of patent,technological development and scientific research project to carry out a comprehensive analysis ofthe research project to find the relationship between patent information and scientific researchprojects. In this paper, three cases are analyzed and the results of case study samples areintegrated, analyzes similarities and differences, the relationship between patent information andinitiation of scientific researches of NSF based on the technology life cycle theory.
