An Analysis Of The Relations Between Patent Information And The Initiation Of Scientific Researches Based On Case Study

Currently, science and technology in the research activities have high intensityand large amount of information. However, in the process of scientific researchmanagement, the need of patent information is limited to the research resultsmanagement, which it has not been fully applied in other aspects and can not fullyreflect the value of patent information. Patent information as an importantcomponent of national information system is the focus of the information resourcesdevelopment. With today’s economic rise, people are more aware of the importanceof patent information. To reasonably apply patent information analysis in theinitiation of scientific researches projects and thus to improve the researchmanagement process have far-reaching significance.This paper deeply analyzes the internal relation between patent information andthe initiation of scientific researches projects with case study. The main contents ofthis paper can be divided into three parts as follows.The first part studies the basic theory of patent information analysis andscientific research projects management. Firstly, the relevant theory and methods ofpatent information analysis theory are studied and summarized with the outlines ofthe basic concepts and characteristics of patent information and the role of patentinformation analysis. Then, the patent information analysis methods are summarized.Secondly, the relevant theories of scientific research projects management aresummarized with the basic concepts, connotation, features and the links. Finally, thetheories of case study method are explained.In the second part of this paper，the field of wireless sensor network technologyand solar technology are selected as two cases. The part systematically analyzes thepatent information, research projects and the relation in terms of the two kind oftechnologies and also compares the results of the two cases.The third part summarizes the common points and differences of the two cases,reaches the internal relation between patent information and research projects links,proposes three countermeasures, suggestions and prospects for future research. Patent information analysis plays a good supporting role in the initiation ofscientific researches projects and even the entire research projects managementprocesses. It provides guidance for selecting a topic of a research project and a solidtheoretical basis for project evaluation and demonstration. Thus patent informationanalysis is of great importance to the current research projects management process.
