Manama which is the capital of the Kingdom of Bahrain today is thepolitical, economic and cultural center and the largest city ofBahrain. Manama has a long history. Bahrain was the largestcommercial activity center before3000BC. Manama is the world’sleading financial center, a modern deep-water port, and the materialstrading center connecting the upper and lower bay now. Manamaevolved from a port town focusing on agriculture and pearl industry toa modern metropolis. We should study the causes and thedevelopment process, especially the two economic transformationsin the20th century. When we study the economic transformations, wecan enhance the cognition of this country and obtain a reference forChina’s economic transformation.Besides the introduction, the paper can be divided into four parts.The first one introduces the Manama’s history, including the the city’shistory and economic development which is mainly agricultural,pearl industry and port trade before the20th century. The second partdiscusses the first economic transformation in the1930s in Manama.This transformation is under the recession of the pearl industry andthe finding of oil. After the transformation, the oil industry hasbecome a pillar industry in Manama and modern service industry has developed. This transformation promotes economic and socialdevelopment. There are also serious limitations, such as dependingon a single industry and foreign country. The third part analyzes thesecond economic transformation in the1970s. This economictransformation is affected by domestic and international situation.This transformation is through the consolidation of the secondaryindustry and tertiary industry to develop the way. After thetransformation, the economic structure and employment structure ischanged. This translation adjusts the economic structure,accelerates the process of urbanization and promotes social progress.But it still faces challenges such as the international environment,environmental issues and social stability. After giving a comparativestudy of the two economic transitions, the fourth part draws theinspirations, such as looking for replacing industry, increasingopening up, scientific and effective management, attention topersonnel training, focusing on market research and other aspects ofrevelation.
