This thesis is based on the twentieth Century American social life as thebackground, and it takes the ads for products in American in twentieth Centuryas the main research object.The full text is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is theintroduction, describing the research background, purpose and significance,basic contents, research methods and the focus, difficulties and innovation.The second chapter explains the influence of the United States in twentiethCentury of the social life of the commodity advertisement, discussing theprosperous life in to the United States the impact of advertising, hard timeshard sell, postwar prosperity and innovation in the advertising picture and otheraspects. The third chapter expounds the types and their social and culturalconnotation of the United States in twentieth Century commodityadvertisement, mainly discussing the popularity of the automobile andautomobile advertising, the concept of life and household appliances, dailynecessities, advertising, mass consumption practice and food, clothing andother aspects of the content of the advertisement. The fourth chapterexpounds the American twentieth Century commodity advertising techniques,styles and characteristics. In this chapter, it mainly discusses the developmentof the main technique used by the American commodity advertising, thedevelopment of advertising style and the characteristics of Americanadvertising in the aspects like utilitarian, commercialization, sense of humor,American life style and the visual symbol of consumerism etc. The fifth chapterexplains the influence and the significance of the America advertising.
