A Historical Survey Of The Theory And Practice Of Urbanization With Chinese Characteristics

Level of development of a country’s urbanization is an important measure of the level of modernization. Since the 16 th National Congress of Communist Party of China proposed the concept of "urbanization with Chinese characteristics", the 17 th National Congress of Communist Party of China and the 18 th National Congress of Communist Party of China had a tendency to pay more attention to the urbanization, and the research of urbanization in the folk was getting abundant. Taking the reform and opening-up as the dividing line, this paper analyzed China’s urbanization development and characteristics of before and after the reform and opening-up, and discussed the urbanization theory of Marx, Engels and Mao Zedong. Besides, on this basis, this paper deeply explored Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao’s urbanization theory and the formation and development of the theory of urbanization with Chinese characteristics. The whole paper is separated into 4 parts.Part I, Introduction. Introducing the connotation of urbanization and Comparing the concept between "urbanization(city)" and " urbanization(town)". Afterwards, this part of paper inquired into the relation between urbanization, industrialization and the integration of urban and rural areas. This part also includes the significance of the topic, the national and international research status and research methods.Part II, Chinese Characteristic Urbanization Theory’s source and the practice in early stage. This part of paper tracing back to the process of Urbanization since the founding of China to the Reform and opening-up, Marx Engels’ urbanization theory, Mao Zedong’s urbanization and the pros and cons of early urbanization.Part III, The formation process and the connotation of the theory of Chinese Characteristic Urbanization Theory. This part analyzed Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao’s urbanization theory and their new thought, compared Chinese Characteristic Urbanization Theory with the world urbanization and the concept of Chinese Characteristic Urbanization Theory.Part IV, The practice process of Chinese Characteristic Urbanization. This part introduced the four stage of the practice process of Chinese Characteristic Urbanization since the reform and opening-up.Part V, The new development and future direction of Chinese Characteristic Urbanization. This part introduced Xi Jinping and Li Keqiang’s new thoughts in Chinese Characteristic Urbanization. Besides, combining the formation process and enlightenment of Chinese Characteristic Urbanization Path, this part also proposed the future direction of Chinese Characteristic Urbanization.Part VI, Conclusion. This part reviewed development of Chinese Characteristic Urbanization theory and practice process, analyzed the 16 th National Congress of Communist Party of China’s proposal about taking the Chinese Characteristic Urbanization path and the 18 th National Congress of Communist Party of China’s proposal about Chinese Characteristic New Type Urbanization path. After then, this part analyzed the development prospect of Chinese Characteristic Urbanization.
