In recent years, Chinese tourism industry has made great progress. And tourism has been positioned as the strategic pillar industry of Chinese national economy according to “about speed up the development of the views of the tourism industry” issued by the State Council in 2009.But because of the difference of regional tourism resource endowment, the social economy, location, infrastructure conditions, etc., the imbalance of regional tourism economy has been an objective existence social phenomenon, and is also a hot academic issue.Analyzing regional tourism economy disparity properly and figuring out the actual situation of the disparity of tourism economy will help formulating regional tourism development plans more pertinently, narrowing the differences of regional tourism economy efficiently and promoting the growth of tourism economy healthily and sustainably. This article made a study about the tourism economic disparity of western China which is consisting of 12 provinces from the perspectives of time and space based on the panel data from 1995 to 2012. On the temporal evolution characteristics, the absolute disparity is measured by standard deviation, the relative disparity is measured by coefficient of variation; on the spatial structure, first, establishing the index system of tourism economic development level based on the regional tourism economic development’s speed, size, quality, efficiency and so on, and then using principal component analysis and exploratory spatial analysis method with Spss19.0, GIS9.3 and Geoda095 i analyze the spatial globally and locally. According to the temporal – spatial analysis, this paper made a preliminary discussion about the factors influencing western China’s provincial tourism economic disparity.Through the deep analysis and the systemic study above, this thesis came to the following conclusions:(1) The absolute disparity of tourism economy is increasing, relative disparity of tourism economy is gradually decreasing. Although the disparity of tourism economic development speed is shrinking, the non-equalization phenomenon of the absolute amount of the overall level of tourism economy is more obvious between provinces in western China from 1995 to 2012.(2) Tourism economic spatial disparity is shrinking. And the trend from south to north is generally presented three agglomeration features including "high-high", "low-high" and "low-low". Among them, Guangxi, Yunnan, Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou and Shanxi are overall in high-high area; Ningxia is always in low-high area; Xizang, Qinghai, Gansu, Xinjiang and Neimenggu are in low-low area from 1995 to 2012.(3)The influence degree of the factors influencing the western provincial tourism economic development listed from high to low is: regional economic development level, tourist traffic conditions, tourism resources development status, tourist reception capacity. These influence factors work together lead to differences of the western provincial tourism economy. Finally, according to the situation of the western provincial tourism economicdisparity, this thesis proposed some suggestions that could reduce the provincialtourism economic disparity and promote western China’s tourism sustainably.
