Export Potential Analysis Of High-tech Products In Shandong Province

Entering 21st century, with the development of world economy integration, the relation between countries has been strengthened closely, and international division of labor has increased clearly. Under the background of intense scientific competition, all around the world, the nations regard the high-tech industry as the key to promote industry updating and want to share a piece of cake in the world market. High-tech industry of Shandong province start late, as a result, Shandong can only produce low value-added products. However, with the increasing of high-tech export trade, it has been a very newly important power to promote Shandong’s economic development.In order to improve the export competitiveness of high-tech products, Shandong government regards the high-tech industry development as the key point in the coming industry revolution. With the support of policy, R & D investment, the high-tech industry develops very quickly. To be specific, the export trade of high-tech products increases yearly, industries such as new medicine, new materials, new information technology, and new energy gather in Shandong which makes industry cluster develop well; foreign companies become the major part of high-tech export trade; processing trade is the major power to lead high-tech export; products in the field of computer and communication technology get more benefits; international competitiveness of high-tech products is ascending.High-tech industry has got rapid development in Shandong in recent years, such as the expansion of export scale and the improvement of international competitiveness. However, many problems has exposed which including scattered layout, cluster effect is difficult to play; low industrial level, lack of innovation; over-reliance on foreign capital enterprise; processing trade leads to low value-added products; insufficient R & D investment; export mainly concentrates in the field of computer and communication technology; All these problems hinder the further development of high-tech industry in Shandong province. How to break through the barriers are the key point Shandong province faces.Using the gravity model, this paper introduces foreign direct investment and number of patent application as new factors to analyze high-tech product export in Shandong province. Results show that the per capita GDP, foreign direct investment and number of patent application have positive effect to high-tech products export, meanwhile distance is a negative correlation. To have a better cognition of potential of high-tech products export in 2013, this paper uses regression equation to figure out: Shandong province is a potential pioneering province and exists "trade shortage".Finally, aiming at the problems above high-tech products export in Shandong province, this paper puts forward the corresponding countermeasures and Suggestions, mainly including:promote the industry as a whole coordination; increase investment in scientific research, cultivate high-level talents; speed up the development of private enterprises; improve the structure of the export trade, etc.
