This study provided as a goal to investigate organic food production in China in order to determine the final quality of the product that would later on be sold through international and domestic markets because of previous studies on organic food produce in China which have stated that some products have lacking conditions when traded to international markets. The study was conducted by measuring the local awareness of organic products, and if there were any organic products present, it was investigated how much of it was sold and through what means, such as locally grown or purchased from organic markets. The study also tried to investigate through certifying companies the attention that is given to the standards and policies input by the country. The local awareness would be used to estimate (along with secondary research) the level of attention that is put in the quality throughout much of the more developed cities in China. The results for the local investigation were that the awareness of organic was present in markets, but the markets did not reflect the quality of the final product. The small variety and scarcity of organic products demonstrated were not enough to determine whether or not the correct amount of attention was provided to the production of organic foods. Moreover, as of now the country is experiencing a growth of organic consumers domestically in bigger cities. One can estimate that if this group continues to grow, quality demands would increase, and better quality products would eventually spill over into the international organic market. The significance of the findings show that indeed there are some issues currently being faced by the policy-making bodies in regards to making sure that all regulations are followed and there are issues the production quality as well as in domestic consumer awareness, which seems to influence the overall quality of the products, yet there is also a great increase in these same consumers, and the international market consumers are also stable in their demand. Strictness in the application of the organic standards and policies is also growing in China and it is expected that future cooperation between countries will take place. One can conclude that it is only a matter of time until China is producing top-of-the-line organic products to sell domestically and internationally.
