As an emerging industry, Internet-based financing is more and more known by the public after its huge influence on traditional finance. A typical example of Internet-based financing, equity crowdfunding is constantly highlighting its inevitability and important value. However, there is no consolidated definition of equity crowdfunding yet, and researches on equity crowdfunding are quite limited, even less on the operation mode and risk management in practices.So, this paper firstly reviews the source of crowdfunding (mainly about web 2.0, social network and the wisdom of the crowd), general sense of crowdfunding, equity crowdfunding and equity-based crowdfunding platform. Through this, this paper gives a preliminary definition of crowdfunding and equity-based crowdfunding, and presents existing researches on equity-based crowdfunding and platform. Then this paper differentiates equity-based crowdfunding from other financing methods and other crowdfunding mode, following this is a classification of equity-based crowfunding patterns. Thirdly, this paper identifies the potential risk types of equity-based crowdfunding, and provides some risk prevention and control measures of equity-based crowdfunding from four main developed countries, America, England, Italy and France. Next, take equity-based crowdfunding practices in China as an example, this paper mainly introduces Chinese equity-based crowdfunding platforms such as AngelCrunch, Yuanshihui, and Dajiatou, as well as the current situation of equity-based crowdfunding supervision in China. At last is the conclusion and future direction of this paper.
