The Organization And Procedure Management Of New Product Project In Semiconductors Company

In order to shorten the lifecycle of product development, reduce the huge cost of new products development, together with raising the customer satisfaction, now, the project management which develops from the national defense and infrastructure, is generally used in manufacturing companies. Due to its significant achievement in new product projects areas, project management becomes an important way to enhance the competitiveness of companies.At first, the author made a further study on the project management theory, management methods generally used in project management, including the stage gate management, concurrent engineering, etc., as well as some common tools of project management such as Gantt chart, critical path method, etc.. Then, this paper compared practice in A company with theories, getting the reasons of previous failure projects. Based on the previous experience, A company found that the fundamental reason of failure was the current organization couldn’t fully support project management, and the existing procedure had some problems, like unclear and vague scope, which ultimately led to project cycle was too long.Secondly, this paper combined theories, tools and practice together, using concurrent engineering and stage gate management in new project management organization, communication pattern, and procedure design, getting a more proper and scientific process for A company. The procedure and organization worked well together, for reducing the blindness of the project implementation, communication conflicts, improving the project execution, etc.. And, by the use of project management methods, the project control capability of project manager was enhanced, the project life cycle was shorten, while cost was lower.In the last, a typical new product project was chosen as a case using new procedure and organization, the operation of which is well discussed in the paper, together with its benefits and shortages, getting improvement direction of project management in A company.
