In recent years, with the rapid development of the global economy, global warming is becoming more and more serious and has drawn great attention to the international community. As a responsible big country, China always adhere to the sustainable development strategy to develop low-carbon economy and to encourage residents to carry out low carbon consumption. To research low-carbon consumption behavior of urban residents is of important theoretical and realistic significance under this background.Firstly, the study makes a detailed explanation to low-carbon consumption based on the references to the related literature at home and abroad. Then we establish a model which takes low-carbon consumption behavior of urban residents as the dependent variable, individual characteristic factors and situational factors as the independent variable and analyze the influencing factors of low carbon consumption behavior of urban residents by this model.Furthermore, we collect the data of large sample questionnaire survey of our citizens and do empirical research by using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, regression analysis, intermediary effect analysis and other methods. The empirical results show that four dimensions of individual characteristic factors- the cognitive of low-carbon consumption, environment values, conformity and consciousness of low-carbon responsibility have significant positive effects to low-carbon consumption willingness. Four dimensions of situation factors – economic cost, product maturity, policies and regulations and the media also have significant positive effects to low-carbon consumption willingness. Four dimensions of individual characteristic factors- the cognitive of low-carbon consumption, environment values, conformity and consciousness of low-carbon responsibility have significant positive effects to low-carbon consumption behavior. Four dimensions of situation factors – economic cost, product maturity, policies and regulations and the media also have significant positive effects to low-carbon consumption behavior. In addition, low-carbon consumption willingness has significant positive effects to low-carbon consumption behavior. Finally, this study makes a generalization conclusion based on the empirical analysis and puts forward suggestions to provide policy basis for the nationwide popularity of low carbon consumption.
