The rapid growth in economy and population, the advanced technologies and productivity dramatically accelerated resource consumption. People started to realize that the environmental problems will finally become one significant factor that hinders economic development. Many international organizations and countries began to rebuild new green sustainable development view, meanwhile various environmental protecting measures were taken to promote the harmonious development of man and nature. The emission of greenhouse gases has become a major problem that has been paid great attention among environmentalists and economists. As one of the countries who produce great amount of carbon dioxide emission, China has been suffered from European and American green trade barriers, thus the export in traditional energy intensive and high carbon emission manufacture has been attacked. Considering the important role of manufacture export in Chinese economic growth, it is necessary to analyze the growing embodied carbon emission in Chinese manufacture export and its causes. Then therefore, China can come out much more valid and reasonable solutions when dealing with carbon dioxide problems in manufacturing production and trade. The analysis of the embodied carbon emission in Chinese manufacture export in this article can be divided into 6 parts, so as to analysis the subject thoroughly. The first part of this article is introduction, includes the background information, the research significance, the foreign and domestic researches and the structure and methods of this article. The second part contains some relevant theories, specifically includes externality theory, Pigovian tax theory and foreign trade sustainable theory. The third part is to calculate the embodied carbon emission in Chinese manufacture export from year 2002 to year 2012, this article cites the manufacturing industry’s energy usage and export data in the China Statistical Yearbook from year 2002 to 2012, the input-output table of 2002 and 2007 and the extended input-output table in 2005 and 2010. By using the input-output analysis, this article calculates the embodied carbon emission in Chinese manufacturing and its 16 sub-classification industries’export. The outcome says the embodied carbon emission increased 285.6% from 70209.21 Mt in 2002 to 270723.69 Mt in 2012, communications equipment, computers and other electronic equipment manufacturing industry discharges the most, while paper printing and stationery manufacturing industry discharges the least in year 2012.In the forth part, this article further uses the Structural Decomposition Analysis(SDA) to divide the driving force for growth in embodied carbon emission in Chinese manufacture export into four parts:Direct carbon intensity contributed-118692.65 Mt(168.82%), the structure of the production contributed 61272.5 Mt(87.15%), export commodity structure contributed 10374.03Mt(14.75%) and export scale contributed 247460.60 Mt(351.96%). We can clearly see that export scale gave a significant positive effect to the carbon emission, while on the other side, changes in direct carbon intensity can effectively suppressed the growth of carbon emission. The effects of the structure of the production and export commodity structure were relatively small, however both contributed to the growth in carbon emission. Through further detailed analysis of these four factors’influences on manufacturing industries, we can come up with more precise conclusions that will help to reach to solutions and measurements to cope with the growing carbon emission in Chinese manufacture export. From what has been found above, the following measures listed in the fifth part can be regarded as proper ways to restrain the embodied carbon emission in Chinese manufacture export:Firstly, encourage enterprises to invest more in innovation to enhance the technologies in manufacturing and increase energy utilization efficiency to cut down the carbon emission per unit of production; Secondly, optimize the structure of manufacturing export commodities and cut down the proportion of energy intensive products so as to decrease the overall carbon emission in whole industry; Thirdly, change the foreign trade’s development pattern and raise the foreign investment admittance criterion in China, gradually improve the position of Chinese manufacture in global value chain, so as to cut down the embodied carbon emission in Chinese manufacture export. In the lart part, all the analysis and conclusions above are summarized and listed.
