Unemployment And The Duration Of Unemployment

At present, the transition in labor market marks entering the middle-income stage, and the labor market is transforming at the key time. There will be more uncertain factors in future. In recent years, the problem of unemployment is facing more unprecedented crises. Too much population of unemployment means excessive waste of human resources. Moreover it will be a potential threat to social stability. Therefore knowing the reason of unemployment is necessary. In this paper, using the sixth national population census long table data and the data to analyze the basic situation of unemployment, and taking the LOGIT model and COX proportional hazards mode, we quantify the length of unemployment hours differences among the different genders, regions education and age groups to analyze the average duration of unemployment.The results show that the unemployment rate of men is generally lower than women. From the different areas, the national unemployment population of about seventy percent in cities and towns, while rural population accounted for only thirty percent of unemployment. The 16 to 19 age group in different areas is the highest unemployment rates among the age group urban unemployment rate and rural unemployment rate. The 20-24 age group’s unemployment rate is 6.06% and the under the age of 25 group’s unemployment is high which means the employment situation at this group is serious. The unemployment rate of Junior College is the highest, at 5.70%, and the level of education for high school and university graduate unemployment is high, for 5.68% and 4.01% respectively. Level of higher education in the town worker’s unemployment rate is lower than the country’s unemployment rate. In 2010, the unemployment rate of the economically active population with Junior College, undergraduate and graduate college is 5.62%,3.88% and 2.11% respectively, compared with the same cultural level of rural economic activity in the population, the unemployment rate low of 0.67%,0.67% and 2.24% respectively, and the town of high school and high school education under the worker’s unemployment rate will be higher than rural by education socioeconomic status of the unemployment. China’s urban unemployment situation is severe, the urban unemployment level is higher than rural area. The duration of unemployment is longer than the rural labor force. The unemployment time of men is longer than female. The unemployment duration decreased with the increasing level of education. The employers without school have the longest duration of unemployment, and unemployment duration is the shortest among the graduate students. The age characteristics of unemployment time differences in gender.As the current sever unemployment situation, there are following suggestions to be considered:firstly, the government should reduce the huge wage gap and unfair differences between male and female. Meanwhile it’s necessary to strengthen the laws and regulations on gender discrimination; secondly, increasing investment in the development of education and the education level of the quality of workers, to improve the existing training system to make it more adapted to the needs of the labor market; thirdly, making the corresponding policies to foster the employment and develop the full value of labor. These methods are very helpful to enhance the employment rate, reduce frictional unemployment, and improve employment conditions.
