From the beginning of the 1970s, a large number of studies have investigated the phenomenon of spatial concentration of corporate headquarters. After entering the 21st century, with the trend of globalization and the changes in the organization of production, the geographical distribution of large corporate headquarters has attracted more attention of the academic community. Research shows that the distribution of large corporate headquarters has a profound impact on urban and regional development, and can reflect the structure of the cities and regions within countries. As corporate headquarters have rights of enormous resource in hand, it is the center of decision-making and controlling. The headquarters’decisions will affect the development of the regional branches and subsidiaries and even the country. Therefore, according to the distribution of China’s top 500 manufacturing companies, the country is divided into three part including eastern, northern and midwestern. At the present, though Chinese economic reforms have made great achievements, China still regards manufacturing as the support of the economic. The development of manufacturing has played a vital role on Chinese economic. In this paper, from the view of provincial units’ manufacturing competitiveness, in order to make targeted economic decisions, analyzing their strengths and weaknesses will be of great role in promoting the development of economic.This paper is divided into a total of five parts:The first part is a preface, which describes the background and significance of the topic, followed by the study of domestic and abroad literature that are summarized and assessment, final the paper describes the structure and possible innovations; the second part is analyzing the distribution characteristic of China’s top 500 manufacturing industries in all regions; the third part and the fourth part are the empirical analysis, the third part is the competitiveness evaluation for the manufacturing sector of provincial units across the country as a whole using principal components analysis(PCA), the fourth part is the competitiveness evaluation of the manufacturing sub-sectors using the super efficiency DEA method, which is related with all provinces; the fifth part summarizes the conclusions of the empirical analysis in the third and fourth parts, analyzes the problems in the process of China’s manufacturing development and proposes appropriate policy recommendations.The study found that, problems in the development of country’s manufacturing are relatively concentrated; though high efficiency sub-sectors of provinces are slightly different, on the whole, they are also relatively concentrated.
