Storage is at the hub and plays an important role in the logistics system, it is one of the pillars of logistics activities. Improving storage efficiency can effectively improve the whole logistics system operation efficiency and logistics service quality, accelerates the circulation of commodities, reduce logistics costs, thereby enhance the competitiveness of enterprises.With the freezing period advent of iron and steel industry, Steel demand growth is significantly decreased,the long-term accumulated contradictions in the steel industry appears and becomes acute, the problem of overcapacity becomes increasingly prominent. Logistics is "The third profit source", improve logistics efficiency and reduce logistics costs have been one of the main areas which iron and steel enterprises effort to explore. Storage cost is an important part of logistics cost. This paper mainly studies how to improve warehouse operation efficiency, reduce storage costs and then reduce logistics costs by two aspects of warehouse layout optimization and storage optimization.Firstly, this paper proposes the background, purpose and significance of the research, describes the current situation of warehouse layout optimization and storage optimization, and then introduces storage’s concept, function, warehouse layout optimization and storage optimization method; then analyzes the present problems of the warehouse, according to the present situation of this warehouse, using system layout design method research on the layout of the warehouse, and puts forward a new warehouse layout scheme according to the actual situation; Then using EIQ-ABC analysis method to optimize the storage location of the warehouse, proposes a plan for warehouse storage, provides reference for this enterprise to improve storage efficiency and reduce logistics costs.
