The 21st session of the Conference of the Parties about "the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change" was held from 30 November to 11 December 2015 in Paris, France. It is a milestone in global climate governance process. Nearly 200 countries submitted their emission reduction commitments, marking a giant step forward towards global low-carbon economy. China is the world’s largest textile producer and exporter, so the textile industry with high-carbon emissions is one of the key objects under China’s strict supervision and control. Therefore, the development of low-carbon economy will bring huge challenges to China’s textile exports. This paper aims to analyze the impacts and challenges of the development of low carbon economy on China’s textile exports, and put forward relevant opinions and suggestions. On the one hand, it summarizes some concepts and theories related to low carbon economy, analyzes the current situation of low carbon economy in all parts of the world, and further studies the influence mechanism of low carbon economy on it on the basis of the status of China’s textile exports. On the other hand, it analyzes the current status of China’s textile exports and carbon emissions. In addition, it explores the competitive advantages of China’s textile export trade based on its status analysis. Meanwhile, this paper also discusses the present situation of carbon emissions according to the status of energy consumption structure of China’s textile industry. Then, on the basis of the analysis above, it also studies the challenges faced by China’s textile export trade. The research result shows that China’s textile exports are facing five-fold challenges, namely relatively low level in the low carbon technology of the textile industry, high dependency on the market trade of developed countries, the pressure from our country’s development of low-carbon economy, challenged by the intensifying competition with other developing countries and constantly changing the whole world’s certification standards on low carbon products. Finally, based on the previous analysis, this paper proposes some countermeasures and suggestions related to the low-carbon development of China’s textile exports.
