Food is the first necessity of human, safety is the basic standard of food.Development of human society needs adequate food supply for protection, however,food safety didn’t get its deserved attention from a long time ago. With the development of economy and society of our country, the food safety incidents has often occurred in these years, from the illegal cooking oil, lean meat powder, “poisonous ginger” sulfur smoked, Hunan “cadmium rice” to Fuxi company expired meat Event, and more and more food safety issues has been exposed in the public, which has aroused intense discussion. Despite the government has taken a series of effective measures to solve this problem, making food safety issues to be relieved. However, China’s food safety system is still weak and the situation is still severe.Despite the fact that there are many reasons that causes food safety problem, in addition to the lack of strict self-discipline of company, the absence of government responsibility is also a important factor. As the prote ctor of Publi c interests, the govern ment should take serious responsibilities for food safety, which guides the behavior of healthy competition for food producers and traders, promotes rational and healthy habits for consumers, create s a healthy and orderly market environment,establishes a good image of the government, builds a harmonious society.Through literature research, actual survey and induction analysis, The paper studies food safety from the perspective of the government ’s responsibility, combined with the actual situation of S city in Shanxi province, and clearly points out problems in the supervision of food safety in S. To solve these problems respectively, the paper analyses the reasons for the absence of government ’s responsibility in the supervision, and puts forward reasonable suggestions for improvement from the aspect of legislation regulatory mode, related system, accountability system and supervision.The solution of food safety issues can’t be accomplished at one stroke, and requires the joint efforts of government, companies, other social organizations and the public.The government specially should play a leading role, strengthen capacity building of food safety supervision and implement the regulatory responsibilities to reduce and eliminate food safety incidents and protect public’s fundamental interests.
