Research On Export Development Of Thailand Textile And Garment Industry Under The Framework Of The Asean Economic Community

With the development of Thailand industry, Thailand’s export development made great contribution to the economic progress, especially in 2015 after establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community; Thailand’s goods are exported to countries of ASEAN, and even exported to many countries in the world. It has a great impact on increasing the financial income of Thailand government and the improvement of people’s living standard.Textile and garment industry is one of the main manufacturing industries in Thailand. According to statistics, in 2011, Thailand’s textile and garment industry total output value reached 8356 billion US dollars, amount to 5.1 percent of GDP in Thailand. Textile and garment industry has an irreplaceable position in Thailand’s industrial sector, the export of textile and garment products ranked second in Thailand’s goods export which is after the rice export. However, there are still some problems in the development of textile and garment industry in Thailand, especially after the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community, change of development factors influenced the development of Thailand textile and garment industry. Therefore, this research paper analyzes the perspective of textile and garment industry in Thailand and the development of textile and garment products under the framework of the ASEAN economic community to promote the better development of Thailand’s textile and garment industry.Based on the reference to the international economy and trade, industrial economics and management science, other related subjects and materials, this paper is used the theoretical analysis method, literature research method, quantitative analysis and comparative advantage theory and other theories and methods to study on Thailand textile and garment industry’s export development within the framework of the ASEAN Economic Community. Firstly, export situation of development of Thailand textile and garment industry under the framework of the ASEAN Economic Community, then analyzing the main export pathway and the problems encountered with the development process at this time, then using the latest data analysis of Thailand textile industry development after the ASEAN Economic Community formation and, then analyzes the competitive of Thailand and ASEAN the main textile and garment exports in the world market, calculate the specific RCA index at the same time, therefore analyzes the Thailand textile industry and ASEAN trade complementarities, the results showed that: in the competitive and complementary, relationship between Thailand and ASEAN countries showed some differences, in competitive field, Thailand has strong competitive advantage in various textile products, and the other hand in complementary field, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand trade complementary performance is more prominent Finally, feasible countermeasures and suggestions on aspects of government, industry and enterprises to implement ASEAN economic community framework effectively to increase Thailand textile and garment exports are put forward.
