A Study On The Impact Of SA8000Certification On The Export Profits Of China’s Textile And Garment Industry

The globalization has brought a great opportunity to China’s international trade, butmore and more entry threshold restrictions based on the principle of fair trade have alsobrought us more challenges. The views of the international trade have changed with theeconomic background of "post-industrial era". One of the most representative rules isSA8000, which is a rule about corporate social responsibility produced in1997. With thedevelopment and implementation of the SA8000standard, our foreign trade industries,especially the industries of textile and apparel are encountering more and more seriousinfluence.This paper researches about the economic effects of SA8000standard to China’stextile and garment industry by using the methods of standard analysis and empiricalanalysis. And then analyzes its impact on China’s textile and garment industry to findsome Countermeasures for China’s textile and garment industry to maintain its sustainabledevelopment.This paper is divided into six parts: the first chapter explains the background andsignificance of the research, and then reviews the researches in and abroad on the SA8000standard. Chapter2analyzes the current situation and problems of the SA8000certification in China’s textile and garment industry. Chapter3analyzes the impact ofSA8000standard to China’s textile and garment industry. Chapter4analyzes the impact ofSA8000standard to companies’ business performance by a model, and tried to suggestthat whether the textile and garment industries should be through the SA8000standard forthe long term. Chapter5analyzes the impact of SA8000standard to a specific company.Chapter6is the suggestions part, analyzing the countermeasures of the textile and garmentindustry to the SA8000standard.
