Competition Of Rice Exports Between Thailand And Vietnam

Rice is one of the most important agricultural products in Thailand. It has created tremendousforeign exchange revenue and has promoted the development of its economy while satisfyingsupply at home. Unique geographical position and climate condition make Thailand the essential one to produce rice. Therefore, the amount of its exported rice has been top of the world over years. But in recent years, the cost of producing has increasingly grown and competitors produce in large scale and decline the exported rice prices like Indonesia, Vietnam and Laos, which results in less advantage of Thai Rice. Accordingly, Thai Rice in export is confronted with grave challenges.This thesis researchs on Thai Rice, mainly analyzing the status quo of producing, the devel opment of producing and the current situation of export in Thailand and Vietnam by using bibliographic search, RCA Exponential calculation and quantitativeand qualitative analysis. In chapter4, a conclusion can be drawn that Thai Rice has problems in export and potentials of development in terms of comparing by Exponential calculation, analyzing the international market share and trade competitiveness of Thai Rice and Vietnamese Rice and what causes the differentiation.Faced with sharply competitive Rice market, Thailand needs to rise its competitiveness in export. For that, several development measures are presented, including reduction of cost in production, popularity of planting know-how, improvement in quality of life for farmers, attention on the protection of plough, promotion of the further processing and carry-out of standardized, normalized and specialized production. Above all. knowing that the situation of production and export competitiveness, it’s significant to find its potentials and give proper proposals.
