Since 2005,the reconstruction of shantytowns(ramshackle buildings) is prevalent in the nationwide. The reconstruction of the city, as a branch project, has become a new issue of city governance. The large-scaled project leads to an improvement of the living conditions of millions of families, but it derives a number of problems in fund rising, land acquisition and relocation, and so on. These problems in turn will cause various social conflicts.This paper takes the reconstruction of ramshackle buildings in Su’an City Village of Suzhou as the research object. Combined with the related theory, the paper aims to track and analyze the development of the project over time by investigating the interaction between the government and the public. Particular attention is paid to different interests and action strategies of the government and the public to uncover the unsatisfaction during the Suggestions on solutions to improving the government-public interaction mechanism for future city construction are proposed, from the viewpoint of decision-making mechanism, compensation mechanism, remedy mechanism and guarantee mechanism.
