With the rapid development of our economy and the improvement of people’s living standard, residents’ health consciousness gradually improve, beef with the advantages of its high protein, low fat, high nutritional value is being accepted and recognized by more and more people.In the 1990s, domestic cattle industry rapidly developed,beef production was rising.However, strong demand caused domestic short supply and the beef price rising.The surge of the beef imports has the adverse effect on the beef cattle industry and domestic beef price.A lot of research pointed out that appropriate beef imports from abroad is the important strategic measure that alleviate the domestic demand for beef, but what factors influence beef imports and the influencing degree of various factors are lack of system research.Therefore, this article takes China’s beef imports as a starting point, on the premise of a comprehensive understanding of China beef imports situation, using the trade gravity model, analyses the important factors that affect China’s beef imports and its influence degree.Using the 1997-2014 beef import data,the research analyzes the level of economy,beef price, domestic production of beef, beef production of exporter, tax rate, distance, trade agreement, epidemic disease and other factors on the influence of beef imports.The empirical results are as follows:On the premise of other conditions unchanged,Each 1% increase in per capita gross domestic product, beef imports will increase 3.319%; per capita GDP of exporters for every 1% increase will cause beef imports to reduce 4.389%; beef production of exporter increase by 1%, beef imports will increase 1.402%;The domestic price of beef increase 1%, beef imports increase by 2.141%.on the contrary, the price of imported beef for every 1% increase and beef imports will be reduced 2.574%; Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation has significant effect on the China’s beef imports, and the degree of influence is greater than the influence degree of the free trade area. In the end, aimed at the basic situation of beef imports in China,puts forward corresponding suggestions such as:make full use of domestic resources to promote the steady development of beef industry in China, take active measures to reduce the cost of beef imports,utilize and protect the existing border policy space, adjust tariff reasonably,deepening regional cooperation mechanisms, improve the system of trade arrangements,track the exporter’ ecomomy and beef production status and so on.
