Chinese express industry is characterized by late starting, fast development, great potential as well as lots of problems. Most of the existing documents about express industry focus on the area of private express enterprises’ development and mainly research the whole industry’s development problems & solutions, brand building, policies & regulations and the application of new technologies. But all of these researches untouched the fundamental problem, namely how should express enterprises realize their transformation, which is a valuable question as well as a problem that need to be solved urgently. The problem is especially important under the macroeconomic background of China’s new normal, which shows a new state of medium-to-high speed growth, improved & upgraded structure and new driving force while innovation becomes a key issue. The problem of transformation of express enterprises is the same as the problem of how to realize business model innovation based on the viewpoint that transformation is an innovative process, which will lead to a new business model.The logic of express enterprises’business model innovation in China is like this: enterprises face the survival crisis and hard to maintain sustainable development—innovate the elements of business model or their relationships—select the innovation paths which are suitable for themselves on the basis of practical experiences of domestic and foreign express enterprises—realize business model innovation to complete their transformations, which are represent the motivation, methods, approaches and results of business model innovation, respectively. The business model innovation of express enterprises in China can be realized by the following three paths in sequence:extension and expansion of core-competitiveness, supply chain service, and forth party logistics; and the following three auxiliary strategies in the same time:application of new technologies, improvement of service quality, and enhancement of autonomy & supervision. In their business model innovation processes, Chinese express enterprises should select one or more paths as some corrections are to be done according to the reality on a timely basis in order to achieve an optimal effect.
