Postmodernism emphasizes open creative thinking and tolerance which characterized with human nature, culture and pluralistic values, and advocates exploring social and cultural value, ecological coupling and human experience of urban structure. The tourism spatial structure of historical streets is a comprehensive reflection of the interaction of tourists, postmodern culture, consumption, life and other human factors as well as natural factors, which is the concrete embodiment of the complex relationship between the people and the land. In the background of postmodernism, people’s culture, consumption and aesthetic philosophy experienced great changes, resulting in tourism spatial organization of historic street facing the demand of the new development. For the inevitability of the protection of historical streets and the necessity of urban development, reformation is needed on tourism space of historic streets. This study applyies micro scale spatial analysis method to the study of the historical street, uses ArcGIS spatial analysis, exploratory factor analysis, structural equation modeling and takes Pingjiang Road and Shantangjie Street in Suzhou as examples. Then, the study compares the space of cultural, leisure and landscape, sums up the successful experience, puts forward the development mode of protecting the local culture, while adapting to consumer demand and organic renewal, so that we can give some advises on tourism spatial organization of historical streets and enriches the research of tourism and urban geography.On the basis of the research review of modern space, spatial organization of historical streets, revival and development of history districts, this study focuses on the spatial characteristics of tourism development of different historical streets in Suzhou, tourists’ response on tourism development mode, spatial evolution of historical streets and construction of innovation model of tourism spatial organization. The study found that:(1) According to the characteristics of postmodernism, this paper divides the tourism space of historical streets into cultural space, leisure space and landscape space. After analyzing the traditional historical and cultural space, modern and multicultural space in cultural space; shop size, space format, recreational space, edge space, node space and symbolic space in leisure space; combination of the landscape, river street layout and building fa?ade in landscape space, the study sums up the successful experience of Pingjiang Road.(2) “historical information communication”, “symbiosis of traditional and modern culture”, “distribution and type of commerce”, “consumer demand”, “street layout and function” and “landscape and space image” have significant positive effects on the support of tourism development mode.(3) After the influence of the demand of modern tourism, the spatial pattern of tourism in Pingjiang Road and Shantang Street has changed. The function of Shantang Street shifted from sightseeing to leisure, and the function of leisure space in Pingjiang Road has been further strengthened.(4) The study describes the construction of culture, leisure and landscape spaces and providing an analysis of the interactive mode.(5) “Eight paths” of space organization, namely “culturalization,” “creative,” “experience,” “humanization,” “leisure,” “refinement,” “life-orientation” and “characteristic” have been proposed to create innovative tourism spatial organization of historical streets.
