With the development of knowledge economy, intellectual property rights to a company’s survival and development is particularly important, a good intellectual property rights management can bring generous profits; while bad management will make it suffer huge. Intellectual property rights areevolving into an important strategic tool of competition among enterprises, "trademark battle,""patent war" prevalent. With the economic globalization and the increasing of economic activities across the boundaries of the country and region, the role of intellectual property rights as a competitive toolis further amplified. Effectively identifying problems and risks in the management of intellectual property rights, and enhancing the management level of intellectual property rights, are the necessary guarantee for the sustainable development of enterprises.S Institute isChina’s only one marine diesel engine research institute, it hasstrong R & D capabilities. Its core technology and products aerin a leading position in the domestic and also has international influence. With the SOE reform, S Institute has now developed into a Enterprise Group, and engaged in more than 20 fields business, involving more than 30 countries and regions. As companies compete in brand and technology has become increasingly prominent, S Institute has realized thatthe dispute of intellectual property right in the process of technological innovation and market development has gradually increased as the main disputes between enterprises. In order to declining the risk of intellectual property rights, S Institute began to think about the problems in the management of intellectual property rights and hope to be improved.Byreading a lot of references and in consideration of S institute’s own situation,the author analyses the reasons why the problems exist, and further puts forward the corresponding measures and countermeasures from two aspects, one is applying intellectual property strategy and the other is implementing overall planning, in order to achieve rapid healthy and sustainable development.
