As an important ancillary servicein power market, reactive power compensation is an important condition to guarantee successful implementation of electricity transactions as well as an effective means to improve power quality, reduce losses of equipments and lines, and guarantee the safe and economic operation of power grids. In recent years, the continuous deepening of power industry reform proposes higher demands on reactive power balance of power system, which means it is necessary to adopt a more scientific and effective way to guide reactive powerinvestmentto obtain optimal allocation of reactive power resources. Benefit evaluation and cost recovery are both important content of reactive power management.Currently, overseas and domestic research on reactive power compensation services intransmission and distribution system is still at primary stage which means relative researches haven’t reached a mature theory. Therefore, to study how to establish a reasonable and effective benefit evaluation model and a pricing mechanism of reactive power compensation devicesin transmission and distribution systemis very important and realistic. Such research will provide reference and decision support for investors to select equipment types and improve comprehensivebenefits of reactive power equipment, and then realize the optimization allocation of reactive power resources. The dissertation of this paper is evaluation of comprehensive benefits of reactive power compensation devicesin transmission and distribution system. First of all, operation characteristics and application statuses of the above devices are summarized, which can provide reference for selection of evaluationindexes. Secondly, comprehensive benefits evaluation index system of reactive power compensation devicesin transmission and distribution system is established after evaluation indexes of technology value, economic benefits and security benefits of reactive power compensation devices are selected on the basis of available data and convenient process principle. Thirdly, evaluation model of such devices are respectively established based on grey TOPSIS method and fuzzy synthetic evaluation method. The proposed model is applied in an simulation system to compare and choose appropriatereactive power compensation device and provide decision reference for reactive power management. Finally, technological, economic and managerial suggestions on how to improve comprehensive benefits of reactive power compensation devices are given on the basis of analysis results of simulation.
