Research On The Impact Of The Major Project Of NSFC On Discipline-crossing

The current development of science appears more and more interdisciplinary. Science inevitably will begin to merge after highly classified. Discipline-crossing provided a new opportunity to development new technology or solve practical problem. Recently, variety of science achievements are based on the interdiscipline. For example, most projects of Nobel Prize are based on innovative research results which comes from interdisciplinary study. Different kinds of fund gradually increased the support for the interdisciplinary project, such as the Major Project of National Natural Science Foundation. There is one question that how to evaluate whether a major project promote further disciplinary integration. Based on this question, the issue studied on three point:First of all, the issue collected the evaluation methods for discipline-crossing and summarized the quantitative and qualitative methods to measure discipline-crossing which are widely used in different countries. And then this paper presented combine indicators and maps to describe the cross-degree of interdisciplinary.The main indicators are Specialization based on target literature and Integration based on cititation while science maps are used to show distribution of disciplines.Secondly, this paper used the above-mentioned method to measure and evaluate the cross-degree of outcomes of all Major Project. Compared by the outcomes without funded by the Major Project, the results of calculation shows that outcomes of the Major project have higher cross-degree. The Major Project promotes the interdisciplinarity degree which achieve the original goal of this project.Finally, the paper individually analyzed different factors of the Major Project whether it would be affected for interdisciplinary. Some meaningful conclusions are drawn:(1) Different disciplines are becoming more interdisciplinary over time.(2) Each department of NSFC’s interdisciplinarity are quite different, while management department has highest cross-degree.(3) The degree of authors’ cooperation have a positive influence on interdisciplinarity.In cooperation with the same level, the cross-degree grows with the number of coauthor. With same number of coauthor, the higher level cooperation with increase the crossdegree more obviously. At last, combined the characteristics and impacts fact of the Major Project, this paper put forward some suggestions on promoting interdisciplinary process for NSFC and researchers.The method for measuring the degree of interdisciplinary is based on bibliometric which is not limited to literature but also used for patent. The results of the study can be wildly used.
