As pure chemical new medicine has such problems on development difficulty, expenses, period and toxic side effects, therefore, people hope to replace them with other products. Plant extracts, as the main materials of plant medicine, its low cost, safety and effectiveness, little side effects could solve the shortages of chemical medicine. With scientific progress and social development, people’s healthy views have changed from “illness cure” to “illness prevention”, at the same time, they also hope to regulate sub health of organism through food or health-keeping products, all of these have created big room for the development of natural plant medicine. In contrast with other countries, Chinese plant extracts have stronger international competitiveness. At the same time, the plant extracts industry still exists the problems of cheap raw materials of export, few finished products, low technical contents and low value-added. Facing these issues of rapid development but low level development and the challenges of overseas large scaled companies, how to raise the industrial competitiveness has become an urgent issue. There are many research reports on industrial competitiveness at home and abroad, but the research reports on competitiveness of plant extracts are relatively few. The paper tries to calculate and evaluate industrial competitiveness of Chinese plant extracts through indicators, as well as contract other index of advanced enterprises of Japan and Germany, then get the conclusion. At last, relative strategies are raised on the present situation and gap.The paper firstly applies such indicators as net export, market share, trade competitiveness, revealed comparative advantage index, the result shows that Chinese plant extract owns relatively strong industrial competitiveness, and the indicators are also increasing continually. The conclusion can be got hat China has abundant and low cost human resources, the market demands of extracts with health-keeping functions are enlarging; supportive industry has relatively stronger industrial competitiveness, such as perfect infrastructure, abundant extract varieties, large demands of Chinese traditional medicine; Chinese governments’ high attach importance on Chinese traditional medicine and the policy of “the belt and road” has provided solid basis and good opportunities. But on the other hand, our plant extract industry still has the gaps on industrial concentration ratio, scale effect, extraction technology, pesticide residue and heavy metal in comparison with other leading enterprises. But on the whole, in contrast with developed countries, these gaps like small scale, low economic profits, decentralized operation, low concentration ratio, backward scientific and technological level, weak innovation and R&D, low international visibility, no core technology and superior products still exist in the extracts enterprises of China.
