As the core component of the life detection instrument, fiber optic acceleration seismic Geophone plays an important part. Because, its efficiency directly influences the effect of the life detection instrument. The traditional Geophone has drawbacks, such as narrow band, small dynamic range, low resolution and poor anti-interference performance. Therefore, the traditional geophone could not satisfy the demand of new life detection instrument. As one of the current promising and representative passive optical fiber devices, fiber grating has some advantages that could not be replaced in the vibration sensing.The paper has developed a new geophone based on fiber grating, which firstly is applied to the field of life detection. The paper has comprehensively grasped the types of the life detection instrument and its current situation, focused on the kinds, developed situation, domestic and overseas situation of the Geophone and establishing the significance of this theme. The paper systematically introduced the fiber grating and its sensing principle, then analysis the fiber and fiber grating geophone in theory and the characteristics of the axial force sensor. We have developed the fiber grating Seismic geophone by the theoretical analysis and actual application requirements. We have set up a vibrating test system for testing the magnitude-frequency characteristic and maximum dynamic response of accelerometer, frequency characteristic of the velocity geophone based on fiber grating and summarized the performance of the system. Experiments and test results show that the homemade detection system has the following features, such as the frequency response range:0.5-200 Hz, more than 60dB dynamic range. Therefore the instruments could be used to life detection of deep mine. Besides, the paper also has carried out the expectation of the next research.
