Fine blanking process design is the basis of structure design for fine blanking die, and also the key of fine blanking die CAD system. Traditional fine blanking process design still rely on two-dimensional charts to complete the process analysis with low efficiency and poor reliability, and a single algorithm to realize the layout optimization, ignoring the feasibility of fine blanking process. Therefore, the development of fine blanking process design system combined process knowledge and experience is very necessary.Through the analysis of fine blanking process, we could divide the system into three modules: process analysis, blank layout and strip layout. Process analysis determines the feature's difficulty level, which means the feasibility of fine blanking process; blank layout determines the arrangement of parts in strip and material utilization; strip layout determines the arrangement and orders of fine blanking process in strip, directly impacting the quality of parts and dies. How to integrating fine blanking process design knowledge into process design system is the focus of this paper.The criteria and experience in fine blanking process design is the foundation of the process design system, this paper studies the key technology of fine blanking process design system based on UG platform. A process analysis database is established based on the knowledge and formula of process analysis to complete the fine blanking level judgment with the technology of feature recognition. According to the process requirements, the blank layout direction should be constrained to meet some specific demands. The minimum envelope method and parameter driven ideas is used to combine automatic layout and manual layout to develop an interactive layout method that allows users to customize the result of blank layout. Rules in process arrangement are extracted to establish process rules database with reasoning schema. According to the different location on steps, the machining process are divided into different groups depending on the horizontal position. The final process layout is realized by using feature modeling and assembly constraints.The interface and module design for fine blanking process is based on the secondary development technology of UG, using engineering assembly and parametric driven ideas to complete the correlation of each module. This system can not only optimize the fine blanking process, but also combine process design knowledge into each module to ensure the final process scheme is reasonable and effective.
