The Shunyi cold rolling project of Shougang was a key project of the Shougang relocation. This study comprehensively depicted the design, configuration, installation, debugging and operation of the control system for 10000Nm3/h nitrogen making machine.The Distributed Control System which is based on the PC (Personal Computer) is an important development direction in the control field at present. Being constitute of the processing control level, the control management level and the production management level, taking the communication network as the link, centralizing displayed operation management,The Distributed Control System can definitely adapt the long production process, the multiplied examination control loops, the complex production control plan, the high security reliability request.controlling disperser relatively,owning the nimble disposition, the configuration convenience multistage computer network system structure. According to the nitrogen making process, characteristics and control tasks, the principle for the distributed control system was proposed, and a control system meeting the requirements of nitrogen production was designed and the required hardware and software system was chosen and modified. The chosen system, Yokogawa’s CENTUM-CS3000 DCS system, was mainly composed of the process controller FCS, engineer station EWS, operator station HIS and the necessary spot instruments. FCS is functional for completing of data collection, data processing and the spot instrument controlling. The engineer station EWS and operator station HIS were responsible for the software programming, configuration, data processing, real-time monitoring, alarming, report processing and historical trend recording. All the processes were controlled by center control room, which maximized the advantages of DCS, reached the automated control as well as human and system interaction. The system was characterized as powerful, reliable, advanced and easy maintenance, simple operation, opening and scalable.The study also introduced the installation, debugging the control system, and figured out comprehensive solutions for the emerging issues and problems during the application. The system has been put into production, and so far it was stable, reliable, and fully meeting the controlling requirements for the nitrogen making process. It in turn proved the rationality and validity of the design scheme in this study. The achievements could be useful reference for the closely related enterprise.
