With the booming development of the manufacturing industry, forging industry has been promoted strongly. The increasing demand for various forgings has driven the evolving of quick hydraulic forging press. At the same time, as one of the key components of the fast forging press, the design methods of hydraulic cylinder are still dominated by repeated calculations and revising the structure, which can't meet the enterprise design capability requirements any more. Thus in order to produce a better fast forging press, the modern design method for hydraulic cylinder is necessary.This paper analyze the cracks appearing in the master cylinder of drop-forging press, which starts from oil leaking when working. After analysis of the cylinder block flange transition region, we find that the main reason that cause cracks is stress concentration on the transition areas of flange plate. If improving the original oblique line- circle flange transition curve to concave straight arc transition curve, the stress concentration will be decreased. Considering the real working conditions, we use the finite element software to analyze the transition area on flange plate, and get that the concave straight arc transition curve works fine.Combined with modern computer technology and optimization theory, the main hydraulic cylinder of drop down fast forging press as the prototype, through the ondary development for SolidWorks software and ANSYS software with Visual Basic language, adopting concave straight arc transition curve, building the general model of the main hydraulic cylinder of the drop down fast forging press, realizing the integration between the building of parametric model by SolidWorks software and structural optimization design of ANSYS software, a simple and friendly man-machine conversation interface is developed, which provides a solution for the parametric design method of the main hydraulic cylinder of the drop down quick forging press.Under the premise of meeting the requirements of static strength and stiffness, setting objective function and constraint conditions according to the actual working conditions, the optimization design and verification of the main hydraulic cylinder of the drop down fast forging press are validated, the results shows: the parametric optimization design method is highly efficient and reliable, which can give engineers a great many convenience, improve the design efficiency, providing a more effective and accurate design basis for the design of the main hydraulic cylinder of the drop down fast forging press.
