Wire and rod are important parts of the national economy and widely used in manufacturing, construction and transportation. With the increasing fierce competition in the market, enterprise's requirements for production costs, product quality, mechanical properties and energy saving and emission reduction of wire rod are getting higher and higher. Temperature is one of the most important factors affecting rolling process, cooling system, size precision, contexture, properties and product quality of wire and rod. So it is very important to study the temperature field of the rod and wire, especially simulate the whole rolling process by computer.In this paper, according to the producing practice of wire and rod, wire and rod hot rolling temperature field prediction system development has been developed by means of the finite difference method(FDM).The system includes heat, heating, heating, rolling and cooling module. System adopts modular design, puts the related process as a subroutine call, so user can choose any one according to need. By virtue of the size of the tank position and has the characteristics of fluid, this system is proposed to adopt the method of dynamically add processing, so as to meet the requirements of different cooling processes. System has the characteristics of the whole process, dynamic adjustable, its calculated results not only provided a reference for the rod wire rod production process, but also provides technical support the development of new steel grade and the layout of production line. Considering the producing practice of wire and rod, the program is applied to simulate the temperature field of different rolling specification of wire, getting temperature fall curves of rolled piece during the process from the outlet of heating furnace to last pass of rolling and its temperature variable regular pattern. A good agreement is found between the predicted results and experimental data. This paper has a study on the definition of boundary conditions in different conditions, analyzing temperature variable regular pattern during different rolling process, exploring the influence of rolling speed, tapping temperature, specifications of the products, steel grade and specifications of billet on temperature of rolled piece. This paper optimized the cooling process by adjusted the water tank, has a certain reference function to improve the quality of the final product.Developed system has the dynamic adjustable characteristics of the whole process, its calculated results not only provided a reference for the rod wire rod production process, as well as provides technical support for the development of new steel grade and the layout of production line.
