Tourmaline has a well piezoelectricity and thermoelectricity,high surface activity,strong adsorption properties,and it could release negative ions and radiate far infrared ray.So tourmaline was widely applied in the fields of water treatment and coating or medical care.Although tourmaline had many excellent characteristics,but the hydrophilic,strong polarity and surface energy of tourmaline surface made tourmaline difficult to reconcile with the polymer,and led to the severe agglomeration and poor dispersion in polymer,hard to meet the well application.To broaden the application field of functional mineral tourmaline,the surface modification of tourmaline was studied,and mang kinds of tourmaline-containing composite materials were getted.If the tourmaline could be incorporated into polymer to prepare the tourmalinecontaining functional polymers,it would be significance for development of novel functional polymers.In this work,we had tried for this idea that the surface modification of tourmaline was carried with three kinds of anhydride to get polymerizable organic tourmaline,and then copolymerized with vinyl acetate to synthesize three kinds of tourmalinecontaining functional copolymers.The structures and morphologies of modified tourmalines and functional copolymers were characterized via IR,SEM and EDX analyses,the synthetic process were optimized and its physical and mechanical properties were tested quantificationally.The experimental results could be concluded as follows:(1)Tourmaline methacylate was prepared by means of the surface organic modification of tourmaline powder with methacrylic anhydride,and then copolymerized with vinyl acetate to get a tourmaline methacylate-vinyl acetate copolymer,and the structures of tourmaline methacylate and its copolymer were characterized via IR,XRD and SEM.Experimental results showed that tourmaline powder was successfully introduced into the copolymer,and exhibited an excellent dispersion in copolymer and storage stability.And the tensile strength of membrane of methacylate-vinyl could reach 2.5MPa,and the acetate copolymer revealed a excellent negative ion release,far infrared radiation performances.(2)The tetradecenylsuccinic anhydride was used to modify tourmaline to prepare a polymerizable organic tourmaline,and then copolymerized with vinyl acetate to prepare tourmaline-containing functional copolymer.The structures and morphologies of modified tourmaline and copolymer were characterized by means of IR,SEM and EDX analysis.The experimental results showed that the tourmaline was embedded into copolymer by the process of surface modification and copolymerization and illustrated a well dispersion stability in copolymer,and meanwhile the tourmaline-containing functional copolymer had benign far infrared radiation,negative ions releasing properties and tensile strength could reach 5.5MPa.(3)Succinic anhydride(SA)was copolymerized with vinyl acetate(VA)to get p(SA-VA)with acid anhydride active group,and the p(SA-VA)was used to modify the tourmaline's surface to get the tourmaline-containing copolymer.The structure and morphology of the modified tourmaline were characterized by means of IR,XRD and SEM.The experimental results showed that tourmaline was attached into the p(SA-VA)by the reaction of the tourmaline surface hydroxyl groups with the anhydride group of P(SA-VA)to get tourmaline-containing functional copolymers,and it exhibited an excellent dispersity and storage stability.And the membranes of p(SA-VA)modified tourmaline revealed a good mechanical properties,excellent negative ion releasing and far infrared radiation performances.Compared with the above three kinds of anhydride,the methacrylic anhydride belongs to short chain acid anhydride,and the tetradecenylsuccinic anhydride belongs to the long chain acid anhydride and the succinic anhydride belongs to the cyclic anhydride,by comparison of three kinds of functional polymers,the p(TTDS-VA)copolymer had more excellent performaces,including dispersion stability and mechanical properties,negative ions releasing amounts and far infrared emissivity.
