In order to obtain cellulose from banana stem, banana stems are pretreated by sodium hydroxide and hydrogen peroxide methods. And then obtained cellulose were used to synthesize the superabsorbent resin and cellulose/sodium alginate microspheres. So as to explore its drug loading, the adsorption property of obtained microspheres was investigated. The detailed contents are as follows:(1) Banana stems are pretreated by sodium hydroxide and hydrogen peroxide methods.Influence of the concentration of NaOH and H2O2 to remove the impurity, such as hemicellulose and lignin, was investigated. The result shows that the concentration of NaOH with 8 % and H2O2 with 10 % is the best parameter to obtain good samples with high cellulose content.(2) Pretreated banana stems are used to prepare the banana stalk absorbent resin by monomer grafting polymerization route. Influence of the concentration of acrylic acid, potassium persulfate, N,N'-methylene double acrylamide, and NaOH on water absorption and water retention of banana stem absorption resin were investigated. The result shows that the concentration of acrylic acid with 12 mL, potassium persulfate with 0.3%,N,N'-methylene double acrylamide with 0.012%, and NaOH with 70% is the best parameter to obtain good samples with high water absorption capacity at 590g/g.(3 ) Obtained samples are characterized by means of the methods of FT-IR, SEM,Optical microscopic, and TG. The result shows that the surface roughness, thermal stability improved, and cellulose content increased of pretreated banana stems. The new characteristic peaks in FT-IR spectrum of the water absorbent resin after grafting were found, and the resin was obvious.(4) The microspheres were prepared by the sol-gel method using previous obtained banana stem resin and sodium alginate solution. The influence of different mass ratios (a 100:0, b 80:20 , c 70:30, d 60:40) on structure and morpholpgy was investigated.Obtained samples are characterized by FT-IR, SEM and TG. With the increase of the content of sodium alginate, the color of microspheres increases gradually. When the ratio of banana stem resin with sodium alginate is 70:30, obtained sample is good . Brown samples with uniform average particle size about 2um are exhibited good thermal stability.(5) When the ratio of banana stem resin with sodium alginate is 70:30, the methyl orange and methylene blue absorption property of obtained sample is also discussed. The concentration of dye and pH influence its absorption property. With the increase of initial dye concentration, adsorption capacity of microspheres increase; with the increase of pH,the methyl orange adsorption capacity of composite increases, whereas, the methylene blue adsorption capacity of microspheres decreased gradually.
