With the continuous improvement of people’s living standards, indirect carbon emission caused by consumption of urban residents increases rapidly,as the basic unit of social consumption, carbon emission caused by household consumption has become more and more important. The Central Plains Economic Region at the accelerated stage of urbanization and industrialization, otherwise, sustaining economic development also requires the consumption demand. The objective demand of energy and the reduction of carbon emission form a contradiction. In recent years, the research on the indirect carbon emission of residents consumption has gradually emerged, but the quantitative research on the indirect carbon emission of household consumption patterns needs to be strengthened. This paper goes through the thinking of“awaken the low carbon consumption consciousness of residents—affect the supply of products and services of enterprise—enterprises enhance technology of environmental protection—provide green and cleaning products—format the low carbon development ideas of whole society”,focuses on temporal-spatial analysis of indirect carbon emission of urban residents’ consumption at the Central Plains Economic Region with the two aspects: science and technology innovation of enterprise and evolution of consumption patterns, then presents targetable and feasible countermeasures and suggestions of carbon reductions. This paper calculated the indirect carbon emissions of urban residents’ consumption at Central Plains Economic Region by the input-output method, analyzed the spatial-temporal characteristics through the natural fracture method, spatial self correlation and gravity transfer model analysis, and analyzed the influencing factors by the spatial panel model, got the following conclusions:(1)From the scale of the Central Plains Economic Region, the indirect carbon emission keeps rising trend from 2002 to 2014,but has different phase: the rapid decline phase from 2002 to 2004,the fast rising stage from 2004 to 2007 and from 2010 to 2012,the steady upward stage from 2007 to 2010 and from 2012 to 2014.From the consumption structure, the carbon emissions caused by food and housing consumption predominantly, the carbon emission of survival consumption, such as clothing, food and living grows faster, development consumption, such as traffic, education and entertainment, healthcare grows slower relatively, the upgrading of residents’ consumption structure transforms slowly. From the municipality scale, the rapid growth of urban population city such as Heze and Zhoukou, which indirect carbon emission increases rapidly, while the resources-based city such as Jincheng,Bozhou and Suzhou, which both indirect carbon emission and the per capita carbon emission grow rapidly.(2)From space differentiation pattern, the indirect carbon emission of urban residents’ consumption at the Central Plains Economic Region presents East High West low to the center periphery structure from 2002 to 2014.In 2002,per carbon emission presents north high south low to East West High and middle low,low per capita carbon emission and lower per capita carbon emissions staggered distribution from the north to the South at the middle. From spatial association pattern, the per capita carbon emissions showed different characteristics of northwest and southeast, the northwest consists of diffusion area, polarized region and transition region and the southeast dominates by low growth region. In 2014,there is slow growth region, transition region, polarized region and diffusion region from the center to the periphery.Form gravity transfer, the centre of gravity of carbon emission distributes mainly in Zhengzhou,Xinxiang and Kaifeng in north central of Henan Province. The centre of gravity of per carbon emission distributes the northwest of carbon emission, the degree of north-south movement of is greater than the east-west.(3)The income level of residents, carbon emission intensity, consumption structure is the main factors of indirect carbon emission of urban residents’ consumption at the Central Plains Economic Region.Indicating that consumption patterns transformation and technologies innovative is very important to reduce carbon emissions. The income level has significant effect in promoting the indirect carbon emission of urban residents’ consumption.the level of technology is the key factor to reduce indirect carbon emission, but has little impact on the neighboring provinces’ indirect carbon emission. The high indirect carbon emission caused by food and transportation consumption, the influence of residents’ consumption structure to indirect carbon emission will be changed from negative to positive. The improving of population quality is benefit to reduce indirect carbon emission of urban residents’ consumption in the Central Plains Economic Region.(4)According to the main influencing factors of indirect carbon emission of urban residents’ consumption in the Central Plains Economic Region, putting forward policy suggestions to reduce carbon emissions: government improves the consumption policy and purifies the consumption environment to establish good consumer market environment, enterprises strengthen technological innovation to product cleaning products, residents transform consumption concept to form the concept of low-carbon consumption, from interaction cycle of the three aspects to establish low-carbon society finally.
