Superhard AlCrN and AlTiSiN coatings were deposited by multi-arc ion plating with new ion cleaning technology.Comparing with traditional ion cleaning technology,the microstructure and performances of the AlCrN coatings were investigated.In order to systematically study advantages of new ion source cleaning technology,AlTiSiN coatings were produced with different bias voltages,target currents and ion source cureents.The substrates are high speed steel and carbide alloy.The microstructure and surface morphology of the coatings were analyzed by X-ray diffraction,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy.The mechanical properties were investigated by microhardness tester,Rockwell indentation tester,scratch tester.And the cutting performance of the coating tool was analyzed.The results are as follows:?1?The crystallinity of CrN phase of AlCrN coating prepared by new ion source cleaning technology was obviously improved.Compared with the traditional cleaning technology,the new ion source cleaning technology is conducive to a flat way growth making grain refinement.Hardness increased from HV0.13200 to HV0.13600.Coating compressive stress increased by high-energy ion source bombardment and inhibited crack propagation.The bonding strength was improved by 10 N.?2?The phases of AlN,TiN,?Ti,Al,Si?N and Si3N4 existed in the coatings by different substrate bias voltage,target currents and ion source cleaning excitation currents.The surface roughness of the coating is 199.1nm when target current intensity was 160 A,which was twice as high as that of 90 A.?3?The AlTISiN coating prepared by new ion source cleaning process had a low frictional coefficient about 0.2 and good chip removal capability.The wear center area had no obvious oxidation wear and the edge of the wear scar had mechanical mixing layer.?4?The cutting life of AlCrN coating with NC technology was about 3 times higher than that of the TC technology when the cutting speed was 110m/min.AlTiSiN coated cutting tool cutting experiments,the substrate bias voltage of 40 V cutting performance was the worst.AlTiSiN coating with 90 A target current has the best cutting tool life.The main form of coating tool failure was oxidation wear.
