High precision, efficiency and automation are the features that machine tools face with the rapid development of modern industry, which make a higher requirement on the precision and service life of machine tools. Linear rolling guide, as the key part of a machine tool, whose wear resistance is a significant index in judging the precision degree of machine tools. However, in actual use, linear rolling guides' wear resistance has a seriously impact on the processing product quality. In order to improve the wear resistance of linear rolling guide as well as prolong the life of machine tool, variable shape samples with different unit spaces ranged from 1 mm to 5 mm are designed and manufactured. The wear resistance of samples is investigated using a homemade linear reciprocating wear test rig under variable roller diameters and evaluated by wear depth.During the accelerated lifetime of the tests, the static load, temperature and speed are identical for the three separate tests in this study. Results indicate that the sample's wear resistance treated by laser cladding can be increased by more than 80%.Additionally, the wear depth of laser treated sample is the function of bionic shape, unit space and roller diameter. Regardless of what kind of shape, samples' wear depths rise with the increase of unit space under the roller diameter of 10 mm, while samples'wear depths rise inversely with the increase of unit space under the roller diameters of 7 mm and 4 mm. The research not only supports experimental basis and theory for developing a better linear rolling guide, but also has great social significance and economic value.
