The technology and function of CNC machine tool was matured now, so the appearance design of CNC machine tool has become a key part of market competitiveness. The beautiful and continuity machine design has a heritage not only gives the user a beautiful mood, but also could reduced the sensory adaptation costs of the user for the machine update or replace, which could stimulated people's potential to improve the efficiency of the work. Therefore, the study of product family DNA in the machine tool design have great significance on the application of machine tools and industry.The main contents of the paper are as follows:(1) Modeling analysis of CNC machine tools at home and abroad, and analysis of product family DNA and CNC machine tool modeling elements, summarized the extraction methods of CNC machine tool modeling elements based on product family DNA and analyzed the products of Qinchuan Machine Tool & Tool Group.(2) Based on the theory and methods of industrial product modeling as guidance, the mapping relationship between the modeling elements and characteristics of CNC machine tools was explored, and the overall design principle is obtained through the research.(3 ) The comparative analysis of the relevant well-known brand products was used as the design idea. The mapping relationship between the modeling elements and the features and the family design principles was used to support the theory. The paper completed the summary of DNA modeling elements and summarized the corresponding elements of the DNA library.(4) The paper completed the overall architecture design of CNC machine tool modeling design software system based on product family DNA, choose the VB language as the development platform, and Access as the database, developed a computer-aided design software prototype system, the process of designing and designing CNC machine tool is given.(5) With the design and development of the software platform, the paper use refined and unified DNA modeling elements and combine with artificial refinement design. The paper also completed the specific design, verify the theory, methods and the reliability of the software developed of the full text.Based on the combination of theory and practice, this paper explores and summarizes the principles and methods of modeling design based on product family DNA from various aspects of the modeling of CNC machine tool products at home and abroad, and developed a computer-aided design of the system prototype, that can be practiced to be feasible to verify.The research results of this paper provide a convenient method for the design process of brand recognition and inheritance of CNC machine tool products, which has certain practical value and has reference significance for the design of other kinds of industrial products.
