Gravure printing becomes the first choice for high-quality fine print with its clearness and vividness in the field of flexible packaging plastic industry.White ink is the most basic factor and is widely used for bottom ink that plays a pivotal role in surface graphic representation.This paper studies gravure printing's white ink for the insufficient opacity and researches the finished product of plastic gravure from production line.By the analysis of abnormal status,it is obvious that the merits and demerits of products are related to the quality of ink,Hence we improve the quality of ink through its performance improvement that reduces cost of production and strengthen enterprise's competitiveness.The main contents of this paper include the three parts:(1)Establish the enterprise' control standards of white ink feeding according to the national standard.Select three kinds of the popular common white ink on the market,to test its performance like viscosity,solid content,fineness,adhesion fastness,initial dryness,and opacity etc.Through the experimental data,pick out the relative best performance to the ink to formulate feed standard which is also based on international and enterprise standard.(2)The performance of white ink which has been long time placement is influenced by temperature and humidity,so it is improved by adding dispersant agents.And then the properties of the ink,such as the viscosity,fineness and other properties before and after adding are comparative analyzed.The results show the dispersant agents not only enhance the dispersion situation,but also impact the breadth of the distribution of the average particle size.(3)The study of the self-preparation of white ink for gravure printing.By analysis of the performance of the best white ink as number 8213 and referring to the relevant design formulation,its constituent includes quantitative titanium dioxide,resins,defoamers,dispersants,and Ethyl acetate.Firstly,select three different particle size of the titanium dioxide into resin and solvents and stir together,ink is made after wetting,dispersing,grinding and stabilize.Secondly,monitor its performance like viscosity,fineness,initial dryness,opacity and other indexes,compare with the selected best inks.Pigment particle size cannot be too large,otherwise the opacity is insufficient;while too small size may cause discoloration,so the ink particles can be evenly distributed within certain size and the size requirements should be further studied in the following works.
