Climate problems caused by the towering increase in carbon emissions have posed a severe threat to the survival and development of human society.Cities are the key factor that influences the world climate and the city-lever emission is becoming the research emphasis. For China,Beijing,as the capital, its energy consumption is an important part of the country. Therefore, the study of Beijing's energy-related carbon emissions is significant. In this paper,we analyze the carbon emissions in Beijing by using a multisectoral decomposition analysis method.Several sectors are taken into consideration, including agricultural, industrial, construction, transportation, commercial and other sectors. The emissions are decomposed into energy structure, energy intensity, economic structure(in industry),economic output, and population scale effects by the method of logarithmic mean Divisia index(LMDI).The results show that population scale effect is the main factor for increasing carbon emissions in all sectors. The energy efficiency improvements are primarily responsible for the decrease in emissions in the industrial sector, agricultural sector, construction sector and other sectors, while it increases emissions in transportation sector and commercial sector. The economic output in agricultural and other sectors exerts a positive effect on emissions. In contrast, the energy structure effect only makes a minor contribution to emissions decrease in transportation sector. |
