Nowadays the global climate issues and low-carbon economy have attracted a lot of attention and China is confronted with critical situation of carbon emission reduction. The international shipping industry transport more than 90%international trade goods and carbon emissions from shipping account for 2.2%of total carbon emissions. The increasing tendency of carbon emissions has blocked the development of international trade and low-carbon economy.Because there are difficulties in measurement and regulation of carbon emissions from shipping industry. This paper tries to measure the total carbon emissions of national shipping industry and explore the influencing factors for carbon emissions. The paper firstly compares the estimate method of carbon emissions from international shipping industry and then analyses the potential influencing factors based on the international trade theory and transportation economics.Next, from the perspective of enterprise, this paper adopts factor analysis method to study the influencing factors. After that, this paper estimates the total carbon emissions of China shipping industry based on the viewpoint that carbon emissions mainly source from energy consumption.Because of the lack of data on national level, this paper estimates national carbon emissions through the energy consumption data of China Ocean Shipping Company(COSCO).Finally, this paper investigates the main factors from the perspective of the whole nation. The estimation results show that the carbon emissions from international shipping industry are increasing on the whole and emissions have decreased in recent two years because energy consumptions have decreased. On the enterprise level, the main factors are enterprise logistics scale, enterprise development level and energy efficiency, especially, enterprise development level is the most important factor. On the national level, the main factors are national logistics scale, technology development level and energy structure, especially, national logistics scale which influenced by economic situation is the most significant factor. The logistics scale is the most direct reason for the increasing carbon emissions;the improvement of energy efficiency and energy structure can restrain carbon emissions but the improvement growth is not catch up with the expansion of logistics scale;the development of energy-saving technology can also curb carbon emissions. Finally, the paper put forward policy suggestions on the basis of summarizing the paper.
