Derrick is the important part of the oil rig and workover rig, which is mainly composed of steel structures. It has characteristics such as complex forces, poor working conditions and frequent use.In recent years,in non-earthquake-prone region, the collapse and overturning of oil derrick were caused by storms in most cases, which indicates that many hidden dangers caused by wind load should not be ignored.Dynamic analysis of the wind loads on oil derrick has become the important part of structural design and safe production. In the conventional derrick structure design, wind loads are equivalent to static loads, which is unreasonable because of complex wind loads acting on the derrick in the actual production. This article focuses on dynamic analysis of fluctuating wind loads on the derrick and discusses response of the derrick under across-wind loads. This paper takes JJ225/38-W workover rig derrick developed by a Petroleum Machinery Company as an example to perform dynamic analysis of wind loads on derrick. And using ANSYS finite element software,a finite element model for derrick will be built to finish model analysis and transient dynamic analysis of the derrick. The result shows the first ten natural frequencies and mode shapes of the derrick,as well as stress and strain. The analysis also shows the response of the top,two-story units, base and stretched rope on derrick under wind loads.
