With the development of IT and shipbuilding industry, it has become the direction of Japanese and South Korean shipbuilders to enhance their competitiveness by the information technology. In the 1990s, Japanese shipyards developed CIMS by themselves and found it lagged behind of IT development, low input-output and uneconomic. Therefore, some of them believe that the self-development based on universal software would be the orientation of CIMS for shipbuilding industry in future.From the beginning of twenty-first Century, Japanese shipyard have brought in and re-developed product of top global companies, and then completed the integration of its localization prior to 2008. Korean yards such as Daewoo, Hyundai and Samsung did the same with TRIBON and Teamcenter etc. Such activities geared up dramatically with regards to design, management and production efficiency of these shipbuilders.China's shipbuilding industry is presently large-scale but weak. It has to be transformed through advance of CIMS to integrate more of information segment like existing shipbuilding software etc., which is significant to Chinese shipbuilders. More and more domestic shipbuilders have realized this, and have adopted the concept of overseas advanced software, combining with their own characteristics, to develop independently, to improve informatization level. These software greatly shorten the construction period, improve the building quality, shipbuilding management and process control.In this thesis, it states present informatization status of shipyards home and abroad, then studies GEO-CIMS system applied by an undisclosed shipyard in Dalian. Firstly it outlines general features of GEO-CIMS, and concludes key characteristics to the traditional through detailed study together with principle expression in relation to characteristic aspects.Secondly, the thesis introduces application of three modules of GEO-CIMS system in the shipyard, localization and re-development progress in details, then accordingly raises problems occurred when applying regarding management and software. Furthermore especially come up with suggestions such as personnel, organization, planning and management, in respect to middle schedule, work package and work order feedback.Lastly, aiming at the defects of notification function and personnel problem of work order, the thesis studies and researches the link between CIMS and HR system and also re-development of notification function, and then study development route and difficulties for implementation plan, so as to advance re-development of CIMS system at the shipyard and expedite construction of informatization, meanwhile to be of some help and reference to domestic shipbuilders with regards to CIMS re-development.
